This ISO is the Windows 98 Survivor Disk.
After the sucess of the Windows 95 Survivor Disk this disk was created for the same purpose.
Microsoft has ended the life of Windows 98 and shut off support.
This disk is an attempt at saving the update files and old web browsers, antivirus, and firewall programs before Windows 98 is no longer supported by the latest software.
InstMsia.exe is Windows Installer needed for MSI files.
MDAC_TYP.EXE is 2.7 of MS Data Controls.
MSJavWU_8073687b82d41db93f4c2a04af2b34d.exe is the last known Microsoft Java Virtual Macine for Win98. You'll need to have a JVM installed to use it. The Internet directory has an WIN98_IE6 Install directory that will install IE 6.0 and a JVM. You can also use a Visual Studio 6.0 or Visual BASIC 6.0 install disk as it has to install a JVM to install the progamming tools, that is if you have one. In the Internet directory is the last known Sun Java Runtime known to work with Wnindows 9X.
The Updates directory has more Windows 98 updates. The Unoffical directory has a third party update program not written by Microsoft but better than the Microsoft version.
No Plus Pack in this disk, no room and I couldn't find it. I am trying to keep the disk under 700MB so that older machines can still read it. If it goes over 700MB it ends up being a DVD image. Find the Windows 98 Plus pack elsewhere.
NovellClient98.exe is the Novell Netware Client for Windows 98 in case you still use Netware.
98USDMSD is USB Sotrage drivers for Windows 98 to use USB hard drives, MP3 players, iPods, etc, but may not work with all devices.
Y2K are the Y2K updates for Windows 98 that Microsoft pulled off the Internet and no longer have them at their web site.
The Internet directory has web browsers, email programs, ftp clients, and Internet players and viewers that are supposed to work with Windows 98, but are old and may be buggy. Some might not work.
The Firewall directory has Firewalls that are supposed to work with Windows 98, but are old and may be buggy. Some might not work.
The Antivirus directory has AntiVirus programs that are supposed to work with Windows 98, but are old and may be buggy. Some might not work.
The Office directory has Free Alternatives to MS-Office programs that are supposed to work with Windows 98, but are old and may be buggy. Some might not work.
The Archivers directory has Archiver programs, like Zip, Ace, rar, etc programs that are supposed to work with Windows 98, but are old and may be buggy. Some might not work.
The VBRUN directory has Visual BASIC Runtime libraries in case your legacy VB programs need it to run.
This disk was created by Gill Bates, Bill Gates' long lost twin brother from a parallel universe where Microsoft is the complete opposite of what it is in our universe and allowed Windows 98 to live forever instead of shutting off support for it and then deletinig all update files from the Internet.
